Finally, we have a Shabu Shabu restaurant in SLC! Sukiyaki is one of my favorite things to eat when I visit Japan. Now I can enjoy it any time I like here at Mr. Shabu! This type of restaurant might be a little daunting if you've never been to one before. I recommend going with a friend who knows what's up. The fact that everyone gets an individual pot makes this the perfect group dinner. You can choose your favorite flavor of broth and then cook up whatever meat and veggies you prefer. No compromises! The wait staff is friendly and quickly arrives after pressing the call button. The restaurant is also bigger than it seems. The decor is very modern and it's super clean. The free toothbrushes and mouthwash in the bathrooms add a fun twist that will make your visit memorable. ~ Ben B
The place was great and so was the food! Both times I had the tonkatsu broth and it was very flavorful. The options at the food bar are great. They have different kinds of veggies, fish cakes, seafood and many noddles. My favorite is the dumplings and the kimchi. They also have an option that you can pay for just the broth and the food bar. The appetizers are also great, definitely recommend the corn cheese served with the dinner menu. The cream cheese wontons were also a favorite. I went there during different hours, lunch and dinner have different perks. I would recommend the lunch time for anyone that likes quiet. The cost is also less but some items are only searved with the dinner menu. Dinner time has more options but can be a long wait and is noisier. ~ hyndi
I've been coming to Mr. Shabu for at least 6 months if not longer. I can honestly say that this is a high quality resturant that is worth coming back to everytime. I usually try to come for the $5 sushi night after 8pm. They only let the first 30 customers have the promotion and I have never had a problem being sat and served with excellent care and attention. I understand that it is a limited promotion and they are not able to always seat everyone who comes in the door. Even if I dont get a seat I think it is well worth coming back time and again to enjoy the relaxed and upscale atmosphere, service and quality of food. The sushi rolls here are phenomenal and I haven't tried the ramen yet but I am excited to try it in the future. Mr. Shabu, whatever you are doing. You are doing it right. ~ Elizabeth B
What a fantastic restaurant! This is easily the best Hot Pot restaurant in salt lake. It was great all the way from the large tables that you end up over filling with plates of meat and veggies, to the quick and attentive service. We went in as a party of 6 and tried every meat and most of the items on the salad bar. I've tried a few other hot pot places in town and none can compare. One of the members of my party had eaten here 3 times in the two weeks it's been open. Seriously it was a fantastic experience and I highly recommend. We had all the meats and the Tonkatsu broth, full of flavor. Though I am a carnivore all the way through, the vegetarian options are pretty solid as well and the reduced price for it is awesome to see. ~ Rafael J
Love this place so much! The owner and employees are fantastic and the food is absolutely delicious. It’s usually buffet style for the hot pot add ins (veggies, seafood and sauces) so I didn’t think they would be open with all the current covid regulations but they have made it work! Seating is very well spaced out and you fill out a checklist for the buffet add ins you would like and your server brings them to you. They have a touch-less digital body temperature reader that takes your temp upon arrival for safety measures (which I found comforting), everything is sanitized and all employees are wearing masks. This is more than dinner, it’s an experience. Easily one of my favorite places to eat. ~ Kara C
I had never tried a hot pot place before so it was interesting and I learned a lot. The crab does not come cracked, it is the legs and some of the main body and you have to crack it to get to everything. The shrimp comes with head and legs attached so you have to remove the heads and outer layer. The mussels come in shells and you have to pop them out. Ordering what I wanted was cool and I was able to make a great seafood soup out of all the ingredients. They do, of course, bring out vegetables as well. You get a little ordering list with your options and you check off want you want. I assume this is because of Covid-19. Normally, you go and get what you want for your pot. Will definitely try this place again and see how many different types of hot pot I can make with the options available. Go try it, it's amazing! ~ Megan E
We came here because a friend recommended this place and it was amazing! Never been to an Asian restaurant where you have the opportunity to cook your own buffet. You get unlimited appetizers, you choose your broth and meat with your server then go to the buffet to get everything else you want. Whether it’s seafood, tofu, noodles, veggies, etc. The food was full of flavor , the options where incredible, our experience overall was amazing! We did show up close to the restaurant closing but the server never made us feel like it was a burden. His service was outstanding! Friendly, attentive and provided us great recommendations. To top it off the restaurant was really clean. It was incredible to see how clean a buffet style restaurant was. Gratuity was added to our party of 5 but I didn’t hesitate to tip extra , it was that good! ~ Zack S
Ordered the tonkatsu broth mixed with the beef bone broth. The flavor became even better once I added cilantro and cooked the broth with shrimp and clams. I thought the lunch offering of meats were great and the rosemary fries from the appetizers were perfectly seasoned and crunchy! Get the spicy ponzu sauce and added garlic and green onions for extra flavor. The self serve bar is a good variety of veggie and seafood. I loved the king oyster mushrooms. I would love to see ginger offered along with with sauce bar. The only major complaint I have is the shrimps are not de-veined. It’s hard to de-vein them without the right utensil, such as a knife. It was messy to do so with a fork and it just spread everywhere, bleh! Otherwise, I enjoyed everything and our waitress came by often to allow us to reorder the meats. ~ S C
I recently visited a hot pot restaurant that I had been to in the past. I was surprised to see that they were now serving sushi, which I didn't remember from my last visit. However, I decided to stick to the hot pot, which is what the restaurant is known for. Each person gets to choose their own broth and order meats. They also have a fair selection of appetizers and other foods, including different vegetables, fish balls, seafood, tofu, rice cakes, and more. There are also a number of different sauces to choose from. While the sauce station was a bit messy, with sticky raddles, I understand that this is to be expected in a hot pot restaurant..?! 😅 Overall, I had a good experience at this restaurant and would recommend it to others. ~ Hana P
All you can eat Shabu Shabu, was a great place, vegetables were fresh, everything was organized and clean (we did go on a monday night, bit slower than other nights I assume). Each person has their own personal broth which I liked (3 of us, sat at a booth with 4 warmers) Our server Beom was great, always checking in on us to make sure we were good on broth, and answering any questions we had on broth, meat quality (great selection of meat), anything of the sort. Do ask about the meat though, especially since some people may get picky, but doesn't hurt to try them all! They had a special that night which was the chocolate fondue which was nice (usually $5 i believe), Came with pineapple, rice krispies, brownie bites, marshmallows, strawberries. Overall a great place for Shabu, fully enjoyed it. ~ Oscar J
I love this place. My friend and I have made it a habit of coming every week. I love the variety, and the freshness of the food, and the music. My only complaints are that they don't have seaweed knots like Umi, and that the last server we had was puzzlingly abrasive and rude. Our other servers have always been excellent, and super nice. This time, we were very weirdly and sternly informed about how we were "steadily approaching" our two hour table time limit only an hour and twenty minutes into our dinner (close enough to closing that they probably wouldn't have time to seat anyone else regardless), even though it was quite clear we were naturally almost finished anyway. Then, he seemed to get frustrated and curt when we asked to split the check. Truly taken aback. We still tipped 20%, but yikes. ~ Tiffany B
This is one of my new favorite Japanese restaurants! 🥰 As somebody who's tried Utah's best and Nevada's best Japanese, this holds against some of the best. And they'll just randomly throw discounts out at you out of the good of their hearts sometimes. I wish this place the best forever! わ~~~ すごいですねえ! Mr. Shabu。。。このレストランはとてもおいしいですよね! 僕の友達、ここでお食べますください! 頑張りましょうね! ~ Brighton N
**Review for Mr. Shabu:** ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Mr. Shabu is an absolute gem for anyone who loves Korean barbecue! The food was nothing short of incredible—each cut of meat was fresh, tender, and perfectly seasoned. The variety of dishes offered, from the savory marinated beef to the mouthwatering side dishes, was truly impressive and highlighted the authentic flavors of Korean cuisine. The ambiance of the restaurant was amazing and really set the tone for a great dining experience. The modern, yet cozy decor made it a perfect spot for both casual outings and special occasions. The staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring that our grilling experience was seamless and enjoyable. Overall, Mr. Shabu exceeded all our expectations. If you're looking for a place with delicious food and a fantastic atmosphere, this is it! Highly recommended! ~ Hunter J
The restaurant was kept in a very clean and orderly manner. Wait staff was very friendly and attentive. It did get a little bogged down a little later as it seemed the seating was a little overloaded to one side of the restaurant with fewer staff. We tried the tonkatsu and Mr. Shabu broth. Both were good, but the tonkatsu had much deeper flavors. All of the items, whether from seafood and salad bar, to the cut meats were very fresh. The variety of sauces to make your own mix helps cater to individual preferences. Finishing off the meal with a small yogurt was a nice touch. We would definitely go again. ~ Dave K
Had an absolutely delightful experience at Shabu Shabu last night! The food, especially the meats, were beyond my expectations—tender, flavorful, and perfectly cut for that melt-in-your-mouth sensation. The broth options complemented the meats beautifully, enhancing the overall dining experience. Each dish was presented with care, making the meal not just a feast for the palate but for the eyes as well. The service was attentive and friendly, contributing to a warm and welcoming atmosphere. I’m already looking forward to my next visit. Highly recommend for anyone craving an authentic Shabu Shabu experience! ~ Jack T
I was pleasently surprised at how awesome the food was and how on point the flavor profiles were in the broth. I was expecting Utah Asian food level flavors, but I was very wrong, it was legit hot pot. I super like that everyone gets their own individual hot pots over sharing with each other. And I like there is a bar top for people to come in individually. The atmosphere was a little messy, but that is no fault of the restaurant, but more of the patrons treating the cold station like it's Hometown Buffet. Sometimes we can't have nice things when others decide to be impatient and rude. Luckily the staff is nice enough to balance it all out. ~ Jax L
The meats here are extremely thinly sliced and that’s perfect for shabu shabu. They cook almost instantly and are delicious. Service was pretty good and quick to start, but deteriorated by the end of my meal when the restaurant got a lot busier. The pot is a little small, so that made cooking things a bit more difficult, I wish it was larger. There is also a variety of sauces available at the sauce bar, although unexpectedly even the sesame sauce was sweet. I did end up liking the sweet sesame sauce and the sweet and spicy sauce the most. They also have a wall of different ramen packs that you can cook, but I opted against doing so and stuck with the meat and some items from the self serve area. There were most of the standard items you’d expect in the self serve area, although there weren’t as extensive tofu options as I would’ve hoped, and notably missing was quail eggs with regular eggs available instead. ~ David Y
I have been dining here for years and absolutely love their food. The service has always been great as well. We’ve brought all our closest friends and Shabu always delivers! Recently my wife and I have been loving their Sushi promo after 8! It’s a great deal and the quality of the sushi is excellent as usual. It’s only for the first 30 customers after 8:00 and it’s been busy both times we’ve come for the sushi promo, so plan accordingly. Whether you come for the promo after 8:00 or their regular All-You-Can-Eat Hot Pot, I hope you have a great dining experience at an exceptional price as I have always had. ~ Grant A
Absolutely amazing! The service was wonderful and we got to meet owner. The hot pot experience is wonderful as you get to control everything you eat, so it's extremely easy to find something that suits your pallet. All four of the meats that I tried were delicious and the endless appetizer platter was scrumptious. I am already dying to get back there! I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fun and delicious dining experience! Bonus! They had toothbrushes, paste, and mouthwash available in the bathroom so you can freshen up after your meal! ~ Gabby H
Went there as my first shabu-shabu experience. Due to reviews about slow service I ordered 3 different meats when I order the broth. They arrived on time and had no issue with service. I think the atmosphere in the restaurant is very nice and quality of meat looked great. A good choice to hang out with friends and loved ones. They even offer toothbrush and mouthwash at the restrooms. There is only all you can eat menu which is 17+tax for lunch and 25+tax for dinner. Children and vegetarians can eat for less. You can checkout the menu I've posted for more details. ~ S. E
The entire place is immaculately clean, the food quality is always of a high standard and very fresh and I honestly have no complaints about this establishment, given the price point and everything they offer. I think this place is actually underrated and I wish more people knew about it/ would mention it on places to eat in salt lake. It’s also a fun date idea, or a fun place to come with a group of friends. I’ve been here twice now and wasn’t disappointed in the least. The staff is also very polite but not overbearing, which I really appreciate. ~ Paige J
This is my first Shabu Shabu experience so I have nothing to compare but this was fantastic. The tonkatsu broth is delicious, the favorite of the table. The seafood tasted fresh and the shirmp prawns were huge and my favorite. Be ready to get your hands dirty. Plenty of delicious veggie options. I also tried all meats and number one and the lamb were my favorites. The ponzu sauce is a good addition to the meats as some can be a bit bland. The place looks great and they have some cool tech features. Definitely coming back and recommend it to others. ~ Pahoran D
I enjoyed Mr. Shabu! I loved that they take extra precaution to check temperatures of customers before seating and that they allow you to order what you want from the salad bar and they pick it up for you due to covid. The food was delicious! Our server offered to make a platter of each of their appetizers while we waited for our broth to heat up. I got the tonkotsu broth. The variety of different meats and veggies to choose from were awesome. Soo good on a cold afternoon like today. Customer service was top notch! I will definitely be coming back. ~ Melissa M
I love Mr Shabu. We visit here every time we come to Utah and the food here is the best. There are several options of pork, beef, and even lamb which you can place in soup. You then add countless veggies among other items. They also have choices of broth which I have not seen at some other places. They also have excellent service. We have been the last customers several times and the employees never try to rush us and always put their customers first. I give this place 5 stars in every category and would recommend to anyone who wants the best hotpot they could ever have!!! ~ Isaac G
